ABOUT DWIGHT KNOWLTON
Dwight is the Founder of Carpe Viam Productions. “Carpe Viam” (Seize the Road) is more than just a clever Latin name for his company. It’s Dwight’s philosophy – “Seize the Road – Enjoy the Journey”.
When his son was born, Dwight went looking for the perfect father & son story to share his automotive passion. He was surprised not to find what he was looking for.
So he put his decades of experience as a Design and Creative Director to work.
Having designed environments for a Fortune 50 retailer, numerous award winning logos, and digital campaigns for companies like Intel®, NBC® Sports and Unilever, Dwight combined his skills as an artist, designer, and copywriter to take The Little Red Racing Car from idea to finished product. The book has since won an American Graphic Design Award and two International Automotive Media Awards. Yahoo! Autos™ calls it “The best kids’ car book ever”.
Sir Stirling Moss so appreciated the quality of The Little Red Racing Car that he agreed to collaborate on Dwight’s telling of his own most celebrated win. The Greatest Race is the true story of Sir Stirling’s record-setting win of the 1955 Mille Miglia in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Thrillist calls The Greatest Race “Easily the best-researched children's book of all time”. The Greatest Race has also been awarded an American Graphic Design Award.
Building on the books and his Carpe Viam philosophy, Knowlton continues to create an ever-growing line of automotive apparel, prints, and other products that celebrate all things “Seize the Road”. These products seek to bridge the gap between generations and foster an appreciation for the vintage racing aesthetic, elbow-greased hard work, and sweat-won victories.
